A tool that fails this test adds a node to the workflow graph. It creates new inputs, new outputs, and new failure modes that must be managed by humans. The net effect is increased complexity, not reduced cost.
Applying this test consistently across the technology stack reveals which tools are generating value and which are generating overhead. It provides the foundation for informed investment decisions and realistic ROI projections.
